About the Shaykha
When Shaykha Umm Jamaal ud-Din embraced Islam, she had no Arabic and could not read the Qur’an from the Arabic script. She began memorising through transliteration before later studying at Dar Al Huda Qur’an Institute in Jeddah, where she transitioned to reading directly from the Arabic and deepened her study of Tajwid.
She went on to major in Arabic, complete her memorisation of the Qur’an and receive an ijazah in Tajwid according to Hafs ‘an ‘Asim. She has studied Qur’an sciences with specialised scholars and has taught Shariah and Qur’an sciences to Muslim women for more than 20 years.
As a mother of five children who all memorised the Qur’an, she also understands the importance of giving the next generation knowledge that builds certainty, love and veneration for the Book of Allah.
