Understanding Your Rights & Responsibilities in Marriage
A successful marriage requires more than love. It requires knowledge.
Marriage comes with rights, responsibilities and boundaries set by Allah. Yet many enter married life without truly understanding what Islam requires of each spouse.
This course takes sisters through the Shariah rulings governing life within marriage, helping them understand what each spouse owes to the other, the rights Allah has established and the limits He has placed.
What You Will Study
✔️ How the Shariah guides married life and defines the rights and responsibilities of each spouse
✔️ Qiwamah: the husband’s role, responsibilities and limits
✔️ Obedience in marriage: what is required of a wife and what are its limits?
✔️ A wife’s financial rights: what is her husband required to provide?
✔️ Polygyny and the rights of co-wives
✔️ Marital conflict: what does the Shariah actually prescribe, and what are its limits?
✔️ Commonly misunderstood rulings within marriage
✔️ Khul’: when and how a woman can seek release from a marriage
Why This Course Matters
One of the greatest protections a woman can have within marriage is knowledge.
Special emphasis will be given to commonly misunderstood rulings, including qiwamah, obedience and marital conflict. Sisters will learn both the rights established by the Shariah and the limits placed upon them, helping them approach married life with greater clarity, confidence and understanding.
Learn From Experience and Scholarship
Shaykha Umm Jamaal ud-Din has studied the Fiqh of Marriage and Divorce at both Master’s and Bachelor’s level, alongside traditional works of fiqh with specialist scholars. She brings this scholarship together with practical insight gained from over 20 years of teaching, mentoring and supporting Muslim women.
Her Master’s research examined domestic violence through Islamic jurisprudence and Australian law and has been accepted for publication in an academic journal. This brings particular depth to the course’s discussion of marital rights, harm, conflict and the limits established by the Shariah.
Note: Although this course follows Before You Say Yes, it is taught as a standalone subject and can be studied even if you did not attend the previous course.

The 40 Hadith of Imam An-Nawawi
Building the Character of a Strong Muslim through the words of the Prophet ﷺ
In a world constantly shaping our values, behaviour and identity, we need the Prophetic guidance that teaches us how a strong Muslim thinks, lives and responds.
This term, we continue our journey through the 40 Hadith of Imam An-Nawawi, studying powerful narrations that develop ihsan, taqwa, beautiful character, reliance upon Allah, haya’ and steadfastness upon the Deen.
These teachings do not only shape the way we live. They give us the knowledge and values we need to pass on to the next generation.

Each term we teach two subjects in depth, allowing you to truly absorb the material without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Even if you can't make the live classes, or you enrol after the term has begun, you can simply catch up with the recordings through your student portal.
Enrolment is $215 AUD per term, including GST, with both subjects included. You can also choose three monthly payments of $72 each, including GST.

The 4-year In-Depth Study Programme
For sisters who wish to complete the full journey of structured Shariah studies with Shaykha Umm Jamaal ud-Din, these classes form part of a four-year In-Depth Study Programme.
Drawing on over 20 years of teaching Shariah classes to hundreds of Muslim women in Sydney, the Shaykha has carefully selected the most practical, essential and impactful subjects needed to build a strong foundation in Deen.
In this programme, students have the flexibility to join at any stage over the course of four years, and study the most important areas of Islamic knowledge in-depth, including:
Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence): A comprehensive study of core Fiqh topics required for daily life, such as purification, prayer, fasting, zakah, hajj, marriage, divorce, inheritance, financial transactions, and more.
Aqeedah (Islamic Creed): A detailed study of the most important subjects required for a firm belief system, including the six pillars of Iman, the understanding of Tawheed, the straight path of Ahlus Sunnah in contrast to those who were misguided, and an in-depth study of the Names of Allah عز وجل.
Hadith Studies: An in-depth study of the complete collection of the 40 Hadith of Imam An-Nawawi, along with selected Hadith Qudsi.
In addition to the core curriculum, students also have the option to enrol in Enrichment Courses, which are offered separately and announced as the programme progresses, InshaAllah.
Our first Enrichment Course is an in-depth study of the Divine Commands in Surah Al-Baqarah.
